Charlize James, a graduating senior at San Diego High School, closed out a storied high school athletics career by capturing a state title at the California Track and Field Championships last week.
By taking first place in the 100-meter hurdles event, James became one of just five San Diego Section student athletes to ever win a state title in girls’ track and field.
For James, the championship was a perfect capstone to an already impressive list of track and field accomplishments: in her time at San Diego High, James has won more regional titles than any female student in the school’s history.
“My senior year was truly a blessing, and I want to thank everybody who supported me through this journey,” said James. “Now I may look forward to the future.”
James has committed to San Diego State University, where she will begin studying this fall.
